ACCEPTABLE SPECIMENS INCLUDE: autopsy specimens, biopsy material, tissue, sterile body fluids, exudate/drainage/pus from abscess/wound/lesion site, sinus aspirates/contents, sputum, tracheal aspirates, leukens, bronchial washes, non-bronchoscopic BALs (NBBAL), genital, oral, skin, and urine. All specimens must be collected in a sterile, leak-proof container OR via double swab culture set. Tissues and biopsy material should be sent in a sterile, leak-proof container wrapped in moist, sterile gauze.

Autopsy, biopsy, tissue, and fluid specimens must be received in the lab within 30 minutes of collection. Swab specimens are stable up to 2 hours after collection.
Specimens should not be refrigerated.
