ACCEPTABLE SPECIMENS INCLUDE: tissue, pus or deep wound material, sinus aspirate, small bowel aspirate, dialysis fluid, sputum, tracheal aspirate, bronchoscopic bronchoalveolar lavage, non-bronchoscopic BAL, penis, urethral, vaginal, cervical, oral, urine. All specimens must be collected in a sterile, leak-proof container or syringe OR via double swab culture set.
Tissues should be sent in a sterile, leak-proof container wrapped in moist, sterile gauze.

Send to the lab immediately at room temperature
Autopsy, biopsy, tissue, and fluid specimens must be received in the lab within 30 minutes of collection. Swab specimens are stable up to 2 hours after collection.
Specimens should not be refrigerated.
