This test consists of two parts: (1) Rapid testing for Plasmodium antigens AND (2) thick and thin blood smears. The smears are performed to confirm and calculate parasitemia of Plasmodium spp. and to detect other blood parasites not detected by the rapid antigen test (which is designed only to detect Plasmodium species). Only one rapid antigen test will be performed per patient episode/admission. Additional specimens requested for thick and thin smears may be sent every 12 hours.

    Unacceptable conditions
